Winning wire-to-wire on the PGA TOUR is not an easy feat. Winning wire-to-wire at Riviera is nearly unheard of. And that’s just what happened as Joaquin Niemann won the 2022 Genesis Invitational. Niemann stole the show with back-to-back record setting rounds of 63 on Thursday and Friday leading to a victory on Sunday.
A major test of golf during round one at Riviera
Thursday’s first round at The Genesis Invitational produced some incredible scores, capped off by a record-tying performance. Joaquin Niemann closed a strong back nine to finishing with a 63, tying the tournament record for lowest opening round. Niemann became the ninth player to shoot 63 to start the tournament.
Michael Brennan wins 2022 Collegiate Showcase
Wake Forest sophomore Michael Brennan set a Collegiate Showcase record Monday, shooting a five-under-par 66 at The Riviera Country Club to earn the final exemption into The Genesis Invitational. Brennan used a birdie-eagle stretch on the 10th and 11th holes to separate himself from the largest field in the eight-year history of the Collegiate Showcase. Washington’s RJ Manke finished second with a score of three-under 68.
Ethan Mangum named inaugural Pathway Player into the 2022 Collegiate Showcase
The Genesis Invitational announced today that Ethan Mangum of the College of William & Mary golf program has been named the inaugural Pathway Player into the tournament’s Collegiate Showcase. Mangum will compete in the Collegiate Showcase at The Riviera Country Club on Monday, February 14 with the opportunity to earn an exemption into the 2022 Genesis Invitational, to be played February 17-20.

Tournament host Tiger Woods announced Aaron Beverly as the recipient of the Charlie Sifford Memorial Exemption into the 2022 Genesis Invitational. Beverly will join the 120-player field at The Riviera Country Club February 17-20. Awarded annually since 2009, the Sifford exemption represents the advancement of diversity in the game of golf.

Tiger Woods’ connection with Riviera is a natural one. It’s an hour away from where Woods was born in Cypress, California. As a kid, he attended the Los Angeles Open at Riviera with his father. Most notably, it was where he made his first PGA TOUR start as a 16-year-old amateur.

Max Homa won The Genesis Invitational Sunday in a dramatic sudden-death playoff at The Riviera Country Club to bring the tournament trophy home to Los Angeles. Homa, who grew up in Los Angeles County, earned the victory after a long day of golf on Sunday.

Angus Flanagan earns final exemption into 2021 Genesis Invitational
University of Minnesota senior Angus Flanagan won The Genesis Invitational’s seventh-annual Collegiate Showcase with a 15-foot birdie putt on the third sudden-death playoff hole (No. 3, Par-4, 434 yards) to earn the final exemption into the 2021 tournament.
2021 Player Field
The majority of the player field for The Genesis Invitational was confirmed today. The 95th edition of the tournament will be held Feb. 15-21 at The Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
