The roar returned
When looking back at the 2023 Genesis Invitational, memorable moments have been written in the history books for years to come. Sunday’s final round, highlighted by a back-nine duel between Jon Rahm and 2021 champion Max Homa, saw incredible shots, epic putts and a fist pump that shook the course. Rahm’s victory was his third of the PGA TOUR season and vaulted him to No. 1 in the world ranking. However, one of the lasting memories from the 2023 tournament was the return of Tournament Host Tiger Woods to PGA TOUR competition for the first time in more than six months.
Rahm wins at Riv
The golf world has a new No. 1 player after Jon Rahm shot a final-round 2-under-par 69 at The Riviera Country Club en route to two-shot victory at The Genesis Invitational. For Rahm, it was the 10th PGA TOUR victory of his career, including his third of the current season, and his fifth triumph in his past nine starts worldwide.
Rahm roars into the lead
Jon Rahm has been knocking on the door ever since he first teed it up at The Genesis Invitational four years ago, and the world’s third-ranked player has put himself in solid position to walk away from Riviera Country Club with the trophy. He’ll have to hold off two Southern California natives, however, as the stage is set for a Sunday filled with Hollywood drama.
Max Homa rides birdie binge into share of first-round lead
When Max Homa won The Genesis Invitational in 2021, he opened with a first-round 66 that included just one bogey in his hometown tournament. Thursday, the Valencia native went even lower, riding a wave of three straight birdies to close out his second nine and shoot a 7-under-par 64 that left him in a share of the first-round lead.

Game Changing Moment: Six Man Playoff at Riviera
Over the years on the PGA TOUR, players have experienced plenty of playoffs, but nothing quite like the 2001 tournament at Riviera. The six-man playoff for the 2001 title was the largest playoff in PGA TOUR history and faced one of golf’s toughest closing holes in cold and difficult conditions.

In collaboration with Ethan Mangum, the inaugural Pathway Player, The Genesis Invitational is supporting a series of free junior golf clinics this summer through At Par Golf at Chastain Park in Atlanta.
Game Changing Moments: Joaquin Niemann’s record setting win
The best field in the nearly 100-year history of The Genesis Invitational descended on Riviera in February 2022. From the opening round to the closing putt, Joaquin Niemann wrote his chapter in the tournament’s storied history. From tournament records to a life-long dream come true, the 2022 Genesis Invitational was a week Niemann will never forget.
Winning wire-to-wire on the PGA TOUR is not an easy feat. Winning wire-to-wire at Riviera is nearly unheard of. And that’s just what happened as Joaquin Niemann won the 2022 Genesis Invitational. Niemann stole the show with back-to-back record setting rounds of 63 on Thursday and Friday leading to a victory on Sunday.
A major test of golf during round one at Riviera

Elevating the Game
The essence of golf tournaments are inherently the same. Players compete to see who can score the best and prize money is handed out. Looking more closely at The Genesis Invitational, it becomes clear the tournament has set the standard for professional golf in the past, present, and future.
A hometown champion
It’s a Hollywood script in the making. Local kid wins hometown tournament. The story is so perfect it’s hard to believe it happened. Just ask Max Homa. If he hadn’t been the local kid, he might not have believed it happened either.
Game Changing Moments – Bubba’s triple feat
Winning at Riviera is a major accomplishment. Winning at Riviera three times is nearly unheard of. In 2018, Bubba Watson etched his name in the record books next to Ben Hogan and Lloyd Mangrum as a player to record three wins at The Riviera Country Club.
Game Changing Moments – Tiger’s debut in 1992
Tiger Woods’ connection with Riviera is a natural one. It’s an hour away from where Woods was born in Cypress, California. As a kid, he attended the Los Angeles Open at Riviera with his father. Most notably, it was where he made his first PGA TOUR start as a 16-year-old amateur.
