Year of the Byrd

No matter the level, winning four times during a golf season is a major accomplishment. In a seven-month span, Marcus Byrd has created waves through the APGA Tour, winning four times during the 2023 season. In addition to setting the APGA Tour record for most tournament titles in a single season, Byrd was the recipient of the 2023 Charlie Sifford Memorial Exemption and made his PGA TOUR debut at Riviera during the 2023 Genesis Invitational.

Honoring the legacy and impact of Charlie Sifford, each year a golfer representing a minority background is awarded the exemption to play in The Genesis Invitational. For Byrd, receiving this honor has been a dream come true and one that he has hoped for since first meeting Sifford at 9-years-old.

“To be the recipient this year and to play in his name, is one of those things in life that comes full circle,” Byrd said. “It’s really just a blessing.”

At Riviera, Byrd soaked up as much PGA TOUR experience as he could, playing a practice round with Billy Horschel.

2023 has been a year to remember for Byrd. In January, he was announced as the 2023 Sifford exemption and that same week won the APGA Farmers Insurance Invitational at Torrey Pines. In total, Byrd has made four starts on the PGA TOUR (Genesis Invitational, Honda Classic, Wells Fargo Championship, John Deere Classic) and has four APGA Tour wins to his credit. It marks the first time on the APGA Tour that a player has won four times in a single season.
