Rueck Defends Collegiate Showcase Title
Cole Rueck made Genesis Invitational Collegiate Showcase history on Monday (February 10, 2025) by successfully defending his title. The Boise State University junior became the first two-time winner in Collegiate Showcase history as he carded a 3-under-par 69 and earned a one-shot victory over the 12-player field at Torrey Pines Golf Course (South Course). With the victory, Rueck earned an exemption into the PGA TOUR’s 2025 Barracuda Championship.
Fairways and greens were essential to Rueck’s victory at Torrey Pines. He made the turn at one-under and continued to put himself in good positions on the back nine. A bridie on the par-4 14th hole vaulted Rueck into the lead. The Corvallis, Ore. native came to the 18th hole needing a birdie to seal the victory. His approach shot into the par-5 18th hole landed just feet from the hole and he tapped in for his repeat win.
Finn Koelle, a sophomore from the University of Washington, birdied his final hole of competition to finish at 2-under 70. It is the second consecutive year a University of Washington player finished runner-up in the Collegiate Showcase.
2025 marks the 11th-annual Collegiate Showcase and the first time the winner will receive an exemption into the Barracuda Championship, held July 17-20 in Reno, Nev. Past winners of the Collegiate Showcase include Will Zalatoris, Sahith Theegala and Scottie Scheffler.
