Game Changing Moment: Six Man Playoff at Riviera

Over the years on the PGA TOUR, players have experienced plenty of playoffs, but nothing quite like the 2001 tournament at Riviera. The six-man playoff for the 2001 title was the largest playoff in PGA TOUR history and faced one of golf’s toughest closing holes in cold and difficult conditions.

While Jeff Sluman, Bob Tway, Brandel Chamblee, Dennis Paulson and Toshi Izawa all made it to the playoffs, it was Robert Allenby who seized the moment.

Adding another chapter to the storied Riviera Country Club, Allenby hit a 3-wood in the rain to eight feet on the 18th green that set up his birdie, and tournament winning, putt. He made the putt to capture his third career victory on TOUR and kept his playoff record perfect at 3-0.
