Cole Rueck wins 2024 Genesis Invitational Collegiate Showcase

For the second consecutive year, The Genesis Invitational Collegiate Showcase needed extra holes to crown a champion. On the 11th green at The Riviera Country Club, Cole Rueck made a short birdie putt to secure the 2024 Collegiate Showcase victory on Monday. With the victory, Rueck earned an exemption into the Genesis Scottish Open (July 11-14).

Rueck, a sophomore at Boise State University, defeated the University of Washington’s Petr Hruby on the second playoff hole. Both players finished their round at even-par 71. The playoff began on Riviera’s famed par-4 10th hole where both players made par. After each player found the fairway with their tee shots at the 11th, Hruby put his approach shot into the greenside bunker, opening the door for Rueck. With his second shot on the 11th, Rueck’s approach fell just short of the green. A short chip left a 7-foot putt for the win.

All wasn’t lost for Hruby. With two competitions during the Collegiate Showcase, the amateur group playing with Hruby secured the team competition and earned at $50,000 donation to the University of Washington golf program.

Kristopher Stiles, the 2024 Pathway Player, finished eighth in the field 15 collegiate athletes.

2024 marks the 10th playing of the Collegiate Showcase. It is the first year the Showcase winner earns an exemption into the Genesis Scottish Open. Past winners of the Showcase include Will Zalatoris, Sahith Theegala and Scottie Scheffler.
