Angus Flanagan earns final exemption into 2021 Genesis Invitational
University of Minnesota senior Angus Flanagan won The Genesis Invitational’s seventh-annual Collegiate Showcase with a 15-foot birdie putt on the third sudden-death playoff hole (No. 3, Par-4, 434 yards) to earn the final exemption into the 2021 tournament.
Flanagan, from England, birdied the par-5 17th hole in regulation to help set up the first playoff in the history of the Collegiate Showcase with the University of San Francisco’s Tim Widing, from Sweden. Flanagan and Widing made pars on the first two playoff holes (Nos. 1 and 2). Widing’s highlight of his round was an eagle on the par-5, 583-yard 11th hole.
Past winners of The Genesis Invitational Collegiate Showcase include Sean Yu (2020, San Jose State University), Lukas Euler (2019, University of Kentucky), Scottie Scheffler (2018, University of Texas), Sahith Theegala (2017, Pepperdine University), Charlie Danielson (2016, University of Illinois) and Will Zalatoris (2015, Wake Forest University). Scheffler and Zalatoris are among the PGA TOUR professionals in the field this week at Riviera.
